Berleburg is a large town in the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Initially under the rule of the Wittgenstein counts and various incarnations of this name. The Counts ruled from Wittgenstein Castle (which now serves as a school) until it came under the rule of the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt in 1806 then ceded to Westphalia in Prussia in 1816.
